Today, nearly 120,000 patients are on the waiting list to receive a lifesaving organ transplant, and countless others are in need of cornea, tissue, bone marrow, and blood and platelet donation.
Although today is widely known for Valentine’s Day, it is also a day to raise awareness for organ, eye, tissue, marrow, and blood donation. Donating blood or organs can save a life.
There are many stories about how donating blood has saved a life. Amit Gupta, the co-founder of Photojojo, was diagnosed with leukemia and has a 1 in 20,000 chance to find a match. He started a social media campaign to find a bone marrow match. He found a match not shortly after.
