With the New Year only being a month, New Jersey employers should start to prepare for approaching changes to the state’s minimum wage. Governor Phil Murphy signed a law in 2019 that slowly raises the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour for most workers. The state minimum wage has increased by $1 for most employers each year on January 1.
The following minimum wage will increase effective January 1, 2022:
- Most employers: increase $13 per hour
- Tipped employees: increase to $5.13 per hour
- Seasonal and small employers (fewer than six employees): increase $11.90 per hour
- Agricultural employees: increase to $10.90 per hour
- Long-term care facility staff: $16 per hour
