Who Will Purchase New Jersey Memorial Hospital?

A New Jersey Hospital is looking for a buyer. After the non-profit California-based Prime Healthcare Foundation backed out of its purchase, The Memorial Hospital is without a new owner. The Prime Healthcare Foundation backed out of the deal right after the New Jersey Department of Health approved the deal, leaving everyone confused. However, it is true that Memorial Hospital has been struggling in recent years. The number of beds was cut from 140 to 126 beds. The Memorial Hospital in Salem County was founded in 1919. It was then, moved to its current location in Mannington Township and is noted as one of the county’s major employers.

“We remain focused on creating the right long-term plan for the future of The Memorial Hospital of Salem County and greatly appreciate the dedication of the physicians and employees who work daily to provide quality healthcare for their community,” said Rebecca Ayer, director of communications and public relations for Community Health Systems which owns Memorial Hospital.

It is believed that Inspira Health Network has taken a large interest in purchasing Memorial Hospital, according to one person with knowledge of plans involving the hospital’s future.

An official statement will be coming out this upcoming Tuesday to see who will own this long-standing New Jersey Hospital.
