What to Bring a Loved One Who is in a Long Term Care Facility This Summer

Do you have a loved one in a long term care facility this Summer?  Here are some things you can bring them when you are visiting:

1. Clothing
If your loved one can leave the nursing home for a short amount of time, a quick trip to the store and some new clothes might boost her spirits. If she/he can’t get out, maybe surprising them with a few items you think they might like, or help them with online shopping.
2. Pictures
When someone is in a long-term care facility they often miss out on events and milestones. Framed photos or a photo book of all of their kids and grandkids may spark some good memories and make them smile. Photos are comforting and can help them not feel so lonely when they do not have visitors.
3. Music
Bringing in CDs or tapes with your loved ones favorite hymns or music on them can be a great gift. It shows you’ve payed attention to what they like, and the music can be soothing and entertaining. Music has also been shown to improve depression, anxiety, and even memory and cognitive thought.
4. Just Your Time
Being alone in a nursing care away from your loved ones can be painful and lonely. Take time to go see your loved one during the summer months, even if you only bring a card. People in long-term care facilities that have regular visitors are more likely to have improved health, and less likely to develop depression.

If you ever have problems or questions about your parent’s long-term care insurance, call Cosmo Insurance today at 732-363-3888 and we can help you sort it out.

Long Term Care (LTC) insurance will give you the protection you will need. A LTC plan benefits will kick in at any point that you can no longer independently perform two of the six “activities of daily living”: eating, bathing, dressing, using the bathroom, getting in and out of a chair, and maintaining continence.

LTC will provide coverage for home aides and therapy, nursing home care, or assisted living. Once you are eligible for LTC benefits, you no longer pay premiums!

The earlier you enroll in a LTC plan the lower the premiums are. In recent years, an array of innovative LTC plan types have been introduced to the market, offering you options that are more affordable and ensure that your premiums do not go to waste if you remain independent through ripe old age.
