The Trump administration proposed creating rules that would help small businesses come together to create their own health insurance plans that would be exempt from the consumer protections stated in the Affordable Care Act.
The proposal would allow small business owners, their employees, sole proprietors and other self-employed individuals to join together as a single group to buy insurance in the large-group market. They would, for example, not have to provide certain “essential health benefits” like mental health care, emergency services, maternity and newborn care and prescription drugs.
This can potentially help small businesses save money and offer benefits they think their employees need.
On the other side this can be bad for employees who are truly sick. “Those with serious health conditions like cancer would be left paying ever-increasing premiums for comprehensive coverage,” Chris Hansen, president of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, said in a statement.
This proposal has not taken affect yet. If it does we will be up to date on how this will affect health insurance and what it means for you and your business.
