Today Congress voted on repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare) with the Affordable Health Care Act.
During the election this was a large sticking point for Trump and a popular reason for voting him into presidency. His first bill failed on the floor and has been amended and brought back to life in an effort to full fill his campaign promises. The bill passed with 217 Yes votes. The bill originally had an amendment to exempt congress from the new AHCA but it was shot down by an overwhelming number of votes. The bill will now go to the Senate where it could still be stopped or amended.  The bill has large numbers of opponents and supporters on both sides. Some argue that Obamacare is running hospitals and insurance companies into the ground and causing a rise in premiums, while opponents are concerned that the AHCA removes the protections of pre-existing conditions clause and makes C-sections, sexual assault, and domestic violence pre-existing conditions. The bill is sure to go through changes while in the senate, and is still not yet law.
