A study was done by Dr. Arleen Brown of the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles that followed Americans of various races and their heart health. The study looked into the risk of heart disease, heart attacks and strokes.
The study included about 21,000 white people, 10,400 African-Americans, 4,000 Mexican-Americans born in the U.S. and 5,500 Mexican-Americans born elsewhere. There was data collected from the years 1988 to 2014 from American adults aged 25 and older who didn’t have any history of cardiovascular disease.
According to the study’s results, heart health has declined over time in all of the people in the study. This was due mainly to, a poor diet that was lacking in vegetables, fruit and whole grains, immobility, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity.
People who had a healthy weight, diet, and routine exercise also showed a decrease in heart health as they aged.
