Getting bedtime on track


All summer long the kids may not have been as strict for bedtime as you are during the year. Getting your kids back on track for bedtime can be difficult, but there are some ways to make it easier to ease your children back to a bed time schedule.


Turn off all devices. The rule of thumb for a good night sleep is to turn off all devices at least an hour before bedtime. This gives your kids times to unwind and unplug from stimulation. Reading a book is a great way to tell your mind to relax and unwind.


Purchase darkening shades.

Summer means days full of sunshine, even into the later hours. If you want your kids to go to bed earlier, while the sun is out, purchase some shades that darken your room.


Ease off caffeine. Although your kids aren’t drinking coffee, soda and energy drinks count as caffeine. Setting a time to stop drinking caffeine during the day will help your kids go to bed earlier and sleep soundly during the night.

Get your kids their annual physical exams.

It’s the time of year to visit your primary physician or pediatrician to make sure you kids health are in check. They can ensure all of their vaccines and shots are up to date for school time.

Having good vision is crucial for your children’s experience and success in the classroom.
Visiting your eye doctor will make sure you kids vision is healthy and ready for the classroom.

Some signs that you should look out for that will tell you your child’s vision is not right can include:

Recurring headaches while reading or using digital devices
Sitting too close to a TV screen
Squinting when viewing things in the distance, like a whiteboard or a ball in gym class
Losing place while reading, or slipping behind in reading ability
Poor concentration

Even if your child has glasses or contacts, they should still be vising an eye doctor yearly.
