• Eliminate extra apps: Apps and software’s can take up a lot of room on your hard drive, they can be running in your computer’s memory, and they can interfere with other software that you do want and use. So, go through your applications folder/ computer and get rid of applications you’ve installed but never used or that came preinstalled that you don’t need.

• Update your software: It’s easy to get behind on updates, but both you and your computer will be happier if all the software you use–especially all your security software–is up to date. Software makers often defend against newly discovered security threats in the latest versions of their applications but leave earlier versions unprotected.

• Clean backups: Your data should be backed up at least once every 24 hours, ideally to two separate places, for instance one external hard drive and one cloud backup service. If you don’t have a system like this already, use today to put one in place.

• Clean the dust: Unless your office is inside a clean room, you have dust in your computer. You’ll likely be surprised just how much dust is in there. This is especially true if your computer tower sits on the floor, in which case it will have basically turned into a square vacuum cleaner.
