The Thai soccer team was rescued safely after being trapped inside of a cave for 17 days. The Thai Navy SEALs risked their lives to rescue these boys under terrible circumstances. They were rescued safely and now the primary concern for the soccer team is to ensure that they are healthy.
What exactly will health professionals be looking for?
-They would first check the teams exposure to a lack of oxygen while in the cave. Thai officials on Friday said oxygen levels in the cave air plummeted dangerously to just 15%.
-Malnutrition
-Dehydration
-Monitoring the boys to make sure they are disease free
-When it comes to diseases, the biggest concern would be that the boys contracted leptospirosis. It’s a disease that lives in rodents and that can be transmitted by physical contact with water that has rodent urine in it — especially if a person has scraped skin, which would be the expectation for a bunch of kids that just went caving. It is also more common during flooding situations.
People with leptospirosis may experience fever, chills, aches, reddened eyes and blood in the urine.
-Mental health concerns—These boys have been through a traumatic experience and lived through it. The mental health consequences can be concerning. Time will tell how this experience will affect the boys.

• Always check the water if you are entering a cave that can flood.
• Always use three sources of light and use a helmet.
• Always tell someone where you are going and when you are going to come back.
