National Blonde Brownie Day on January 22 recognizes a treat often referred to as blondies. Blonde brownies are similar to the traditional brownies known almost everyone. In place of cocoa, brown sugar is used, giving it a sweet-tooth-satisfying molasses flavor! Most people like to add white chocolate or chocolate chips to their blonde brownies or other things like nuts, toffee or butterscotch. Blonde brownies are usually prepared unfrosted as the brown sugar flavor tends to be sweet enough. These blondies are sometimes served in sundaes, often topped with caramel sauce. Here’s a recipe to make your own blonde brownies:
Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup chopped walnut
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degree. Grease 9x9inch baking pan.
2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and walnuts. Set aside
3. Stir the brown sugar into melted butter and mix well, cool slightly
4. Mix the beaten egg and vanilla into the brown sugar mixture. Add flour mixture, a little at a time, mixing just until combined.
5. Spread the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle ½ to 1 cup of chocolate chips in top. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick interested in the center comes out clean, about 20 to 25 minutes.
