Even though open enrollment is over doesn’t mean you can’t get health insurance. If you qualify for special enrollment period then you can enroll in a health plan. Here are the triggering events that qualify you:
Gaining/ becoming dependent
Through marriage. At least 1 spouse must have
- had minimum essential coverage, or
- lived in a foreign country or United States Territory for at least 1 day in the 60 days prior to the marriage
Through birth, adoption, placement for adoption, placement in foster care, or through a child support order or other court order
Gaining access to a new plan due to permanent move to NJ
Individual must have
- had minimum essential coverage, or
- lived in a foreign country or United States Territory for at least 1 day in the 60 day prior to the move
Move to NJ from a foreign country
You must submit all of the following:
Documents showing date of move
- Green Card
- Permeant or Student Visa
- An Arrival/Departure Record (I-94/I-94A) in foreign passport or separately that shows the date of entry into U.S
Proof of residence:
- Lease, rental agreement or student housing documentation
- Mortgage
- State ID
- Utility, cable or internet bill
To enroll in health insurance plan, you have 60 days from the qualifying even. After the 60 days pass you have to wait until open enrollment period to enroll.
